The runway is the place to be for designers to experiment with extraordinary materials and technology.
Metallics and graphic forms, but also (faux) fur was often seen. Extraterrestrial beautiful!
I'm very curious how this trend will translate to the street.

Cut-out

I'm in desperate need of a cut-out dress!
Cushnie et Ochs have some nice ones -but SO above my budget- therefore I think I'm gonna DIY (correction: DIM, do it myself) one!
But first I have to make a vegetable dress :)

Costume Institute Gala 2012

Hi guys,
I won't be blogging that much the coming weeks because I have my final exams very soon (just one week!).
But I couldn't not make a post about the Met Ball, that was held yesterday night. At the Metropolitan Museum of Art the exhibition of Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations was celebrated with the crème de la crème of the fashionworld and entertainment business.
I selected a few of the best dressed at the event, which was a very tough task if you ask me.
As the host of the evening Anna Wintour was the first to arrive at the red carpet with her daughter Bee Schaffer. Anna opted to wear a custom made Prada gown with, in honor to Elsa Schiaparelli, a lobster motif. She completed the look with a white fur coat and a beaded necklace. Her daughter looked stunning in a electric blue Erdem gown.
Carey Mulligan, the co-host of the evening, looked divine in this Prada halter dress with gold and silver paillettes. She completed her look with satin pumps.
What a beautiful gown is Amy Adams wearing! This one-schouldered white chiffon gown with a black insert and a silver bow is from the spring 2012 couture collection of Giambattista Valli.
Rihanna surprised me in a good way by not chosing for an over-the-top gown that is asking for too much attention. Instead of that she opted for an amazing longsleeve crocodille dress by Tom Ford.
Wow! Camilla Belle looked smashing in an ivory, twenties inspired, dress which she completed with art deco jewels and dark lips.
Hilary Swank was the lovely lady in red. She wore an elegant gown by Michael Kors.
Kate Bosworth showerd her inner flapper girl in an amazing ombre ostrich feather mini dress. She completed the bordeaux and navy dress with an metallic purple clutch and strappy sandals. Kate also opted for a dark lip shade (trend alert!).
Cate Blanchett wore a dramatic black feather gown by Alexander McQueen. She kept the look simple by wearing an ponytail and almost no make-up.
Kirsten Dunst went for something really diffrent this time by wearing an custom made, no surprise, Rodarte pumpkin and cream double breasted jacket together with a floor length wool and lace gown. She completed her look with a thick black leather belt and a retro wavy hairdo.
Another stunning gown by Michael Kors. Jessica Alba wore this amazing gold lamé gown with beautiful pleating and a perfect fitting. She completed her look with side swept hair and complementary jewellery.
How amazing is this ice blue satin halter dress with embellishments by Prada? Gwyneth Paltrow completed her look with blue Prada heels, Anna Hu Haute Joaillerie hooped earrings and a sleek bun.
Christina Ricci looked outstanding in this dramatic gown by Thakoon with an oversized bow on the back. Simply stunning!

Who are your favorites?
I'm sure did forget a few beautifully dressed ladies like Carine Roitfeld, Doutzen Kroes, Florence Welch and Amber Valetta for example.
